Late last year I was involved in a beautiful editorial shoot at Tournerbury Woods estate on Hayling Island in Hampshire which has been featured on the English Wedding Blog. If I’m honest prior to the photoshoot I didn’t know of its existence, but now it ranks as one of my favourite venues due to its beauty, location and flexibility. It really is a hidden gem that more couples need to be made aware of.

An outdoor couple’s dream venue

If like me you love the outside then Tournerbury should be top of your list as a prospective wedding venue. Situated within a 300-acre family-run estate, the venue ticks pretty much every box for an outdoor venue you can come up with.

Situated on the coast overlooking Chichester Harbour, which is an area of outstanding beauty, the views are simply incredible and change throughout the day with the changing tides.

Within a matter of metres of the main venue area, there are sea views, open fields and more. Honestly, it is one of the most beautiful rustic venues I’ve worked at. The photographic opportunities are vast, to put it mildly, it really is photographic heaven, well for me it is anyway!

Two options for legal outdoor weddings whatever the weather

If one outdoor licensed option isn’t enough for you, then good news there are two at Tournerbury! The first a Victorian gazebo is truly outdoors, and the second ‘The deck of love’ offers an undercover but open-sided option. This covers all eventualities in the event of a less than ideal day weather-wise.

The joy of these two outdoor locations, which are only metres apart, means Tournerbury is licensed for up to 200 people for the ceremony. But a smaller wedding would not be lost as there is a distinctly intimate feel to the venue, whilst also being spacious. You really do need to see the space to appreciate its flexibility.

If you, however, are planning a separate legal ceremony a whole raft of amazing options open up for you in terms of locations around the wider site for your ceremony.

Stunning Woodland Location

The main portion of the venue, including the licensed structures, is located within a large clearing within the woodland. Contained within it are large natural lawned areas, the reception marquee, the ceremony locations and also the Woods cottage. Although all these areas are close to one another which offers an intimate feel it does not feel crowded. More convenient if anything! Although it is a rustic location it is also accessible for all your guests. This includes wheelchair access for all the structures in addition to ground floor accessible toilets.

Camping, Glamping and more

After the festivities have concluded is there anything better than knowing your bed is only metres away?

On-site there is the previously mentioned Woods Cottage which sleeps up to 8. It acts as a perfect location for preparations in the morning before the wedding, but also a suitable bridal suite for the night after!

In addition to the cottage there is ample space for both camping and glamping options.

Flexible receptions

The majority of receptions take place in the large luxury marquee on site but the Tournerbury team offer exceptional flexibility to couples. They offer a list of trusted suppliers but also allow you to use whichever external suppliers you wish without penalty. This flexibility allows you to create your perfect wedding.

Oh and I forgot to mention they love animals and welcome your furry friends at your big day. Would you like your dog as your ring bearer? No problems at all. I really cannot understate how much I love the ethos and environment at Tournerbury, make sure to add it to your list of potential venues whether you live in Hampshire or not, as after all your guests can camp so it doesn’t matter if they don’t live locally!
