I was back on my home island of Jersey in August for the first time in too long thanks to the joy that is Covid! The main purpose of the visit was to visit friends and family. It would have been rude not to fit in a session or two whilst there though.

Charlotte contacted me interested in doing a cherish the dress session with her horse (well pony) Barry. Who was I to say no, and well the resulting images speak for themselves.

The Wedding

Charlotte and her now husband Ben were married earlier this year in Jersey, although their wedding had been somewhat delayed thanks also to Covid.

Charlotte would have loved for Barry to have attended their wedding day but it wasn’t practical. Therefore a cherish the dress session was perfect.

Originally Ben was going to be involved in the session with his motorbike. Unfortunately he was busy building a wall, so the session was all about Charlotte and Barry.

The Dress

I fell in love with Charlotte’s dress. It is a Rebecca Ingram design for Maggie Sottero. She purchased it from Anna Trigg Haute Couture one of if not the best bridal shop on the island of Jersey.

Charlotte had an extra sparkle layer added underneath the top layer of lace to produce a beautiful shimmer effect.

Everyone Loves Barry

Barry is a dun connemara pony and was a total dude. It’s a bit of a story with how Charlotte and Barry ended up together. But it comes down to the fact he had broken himself when due to be sold, and ended up being ridden by Charlotte.

Barry was a total superstar for the shoot. We used my rope headcollar and lunge line to keep everyone safe. It was barely needed though, with him being a total poser.

The Location – St Ouen’s Beach

St Ouen’s bay, in particular the northern end was a natural choice as the location. Charlotte lives in walking distance and spends a large amount of her spare time on the beach either riding or surfing.

Add to this it is west facing and can be prime for a cracking sunset on a good day.

We started up on the common at Les Landes, posing amongst the heather before moving down to the bay itself.

Photographer’s heaven

The skies were almost entirely clear, with only a small smattering of clouds. It did not disappoint producing some magical golden hour sun.

I was honestly in photography heaven when combining Charlotte, her dress, Barry’s dun coat, the glorious background and glorious golden light!
