The last wedding of the 2013 proved to be a fabulous one, not that it was ever going to be in doubt otherwise. The venue for the reception was the stunning Castle Hotel in Taunton which although I had been to before I hadn’t as a photographer. The Castle Hotel boasts a beautiful interior including a fantastic staircase with several period windows and features.

Being a late and cold winter wedding, daylight was at a premium so I took full advantage of the Castle Hotel’s features both inside and out to allow to capture those special portraits for the bride and groom.

After capturing the bridal preparations at the Castle Hotel I took the opportunity to capture some photos outside utilising the museum entrance next door and even the small fun fair set up in the court yard area. I love the shots of Claire captured by the museum gates in particular.

The ceremony itself was at West Buckland church which was romantically lit with candlelight and whose intimate size perfectly complemented the number of guests creating a very personal atmosphere. You also had to love the couple’s music choice which included ‘A Musical Joke’ (otherwise known as the Horse Of The Year show theme song) as their exit music, Stu though will never live down calling himself Clare during the vows!

The sun was setting as the couple exited the church as man & wife and the fading light forced a return to the Castle Hotel where I captured some portraits of the happy newly-weds. Although normally I prefer to work with natural light where weddings are concerned so it was a welcome challenge to dig out my flashes and work with the artificial light within the hotel to produce some differently lit portraits to my normal style. The speeches were another high point of the day with Clare surprising everyone with a brilliant rendition of ‘It’s all about Stu!’

Below is just a small selection of photos from the wedding I hope you enjoy them as much as I took taking them.
