I was involved with an editorial shoot at the beautiful Rownhams House last year. Now it’s time to share my new found love of this stunning Georgian country house!
Amazing transport links
It may seem a bit of a random point to start with but it’s really important.
When choosing a venue you want somewhere which is easy for guests to reach. You often want taxis to be willing to transport guests and the end of the at night. Local accommodation should also be plentiful and affordable.
Rownhams ticks all of these boxes. Located in Nursling, on the outskirts of Southampton, it is located just off j3 of the M27. Being within minutes of the motorway network gives easy access to guests and couples across the south. Southampton Central train station is under a 20 minute taxi ride. For further afield guests Southampton international airport is only 15 minutes away.
Accommodation is equally plentiful. Although none on site there is a Premier inn almost in walking distance. There are then countless others of all standards within a 20 minute drive.
Historical charm
When considering the house you cannot bypass its charm.The main house was built in the 1760s and so is over 250 years old. The house is lovingly maintained to retain it’s original features but without looking tired.
Beautiful wooden floors and walls, fireplaces, the library. Even the big beautiful wooden front door (see above).
The inside is flooded with natural light from the full height windows. In the event of an inclement day there are options and space for photos inside as well.
Friendly & accommodating
The great thing about Rownhams is that you receive a fantastic personal service. The house is a family home and has been for many years.
Friendly and accommodating are definitely my words of choice to describe the team. Helen & Nigel want to make your day as special as it can be. They will work hard and offer assistance and guidance wherever they can.
Some venues are tarnished because of stern and unhelpful management. No concerns of that at Rownhams, in fact couples often particularly praise them for their helpfulness.
Stunning surroundings
Despite being within Southampton Rownhams is not short of outdoor space. Set in 12 acres of gardens there is a multitude of choices for photos. With a lake, wooded areas, manicured lawns and a walled garden what more could you want? Whichever way you turn you have photo worthy backdrops of different types. I only investigated a small area during the shoot and was spoilt for choice.
The main lawn acts as a suntrap. Sheltered and south facing it makes for the perfect area to entertain guests.
Why to choose Rownhams House
Oh and I forgot to mention they love animals, we were even able to bring a horse along for the editorial shoot, hence my involvement. Make sure to add Rownhams to your list of potential venues whether you live in Hampshire or not. With it’s unbeatable transport links for a country venue it doesn’t matter your location.
If all the above is not enough to convince you to seriously consider Rownhams then I can only guess country houses aren’t your thing!
