I am very pleased to announce this workshop which will place at Harroway Stables on Thursday, May 27th 2021. Harroway is home to showing, side-saddle and eventing supremo Lucinda Sims. This day is designed for portfolio building rather than an educational workshop, but I will offer guidance and I am happy to answer questions and offer advice throughout the day where I am able.

The intention of the day is to provide photographers with the opportunity to improve their portrait portfolio with normal models who will behave like real clients. As the sessions are only guided, photographers will be allowed (within reason!) to prompt and pose the models, though safety will always be paramount and fair space and turn will be given to all participants. This gives participants the chance to practice without the pressure of being in front of a real client.

There will be a maximum of 10 photographers on the day to ensure it is not overcrowded and allowing everyone to get time to capture the photos they want.

The day is scheduled to run from 2- 7 pm to take advantage of the late afternoon sun. The schedule will include the following;

Ridden portraits
In-hand portraits
Controlled 'at liberty' portraits
Black background portraits created with natural light

You will also get the chance to enjoy Afternoon tea with time to discuss the earlier sessions
Hot drinks & water/squash available throughout the day

All models and horses will be immaculately presented to allow you to take portfolio-worthy portraits. Don't be surprised to see an appearance of a side-saddle either!

The day is suitable for any photographer with an interest in equine photography with a DSLR, mirrorless or bridge camera which they understand the settings for. To get the most out of the day I would recommend having lens options to have something on the wider scale (24-50mm) and something on the longer scale (135-200mm), this could be from one or multiple lenses. I advise bringing plenty of batteries and memory cards to ensure you don't miss any of the action.

Please note the day will go ahead in adverse weather as long as safe to do so. Due to covid restrictions, the day will also be taking place outdoors and therefore you should be prepared with wet weather clothes and protection for your camera as appropriate.

Note all participants must be at least 18 years of age

Images include a number photographed at Harroway by myself over the last few years in addition to other portrait images of the style we will look to replicate. Note the side saddle image did involve the use of off-camera strobe lighting which will not be included within this workshop.
